Job Simulator: A VR Game That’s More Fun Than Work

Since getting my Meta Quest 2 one game I’ve enjoyed going back to because of its unique concept and fun gameplay is “Job Simulator“. Developed by Owlchemy Labs originally on SteamVR (then subsequently on multiple other platforms), Job Simulator is a VR game that takes a humorous and satirical approach to simulate “jobs” in a world where robots have replaced all human jobs.

    About the Game

Job Simulator is set in the year 2050, where human jobs are a thing of the past, and robots have taken over every professional sector. The game offers players the opportunity to experience what it was like “to job” through a series of simulations run by a robot guide. The game is designed for room-scale VR, which means players can move around, interact with the environment, and handle objects.

The game offers four different job simulations: Office Worker, Gourmet Chef, Store Clerk, and Auto Mechanic. Each job has its own set of tasks that players must complete. For instance, as an Office Worker, you might find yourself making coffee, eating donuts, or even throwing paper airplanes. As a Gourmet Chef, you’ll be cooking and serving food, and as a Store Clerk, you’ll be scanning items and dealing with customers.

    My Thoughts

Job Simulator is an entertaining VR experience that does a good job showcasing the potential of immersive gaming. The game’s strength lies in its humor, interactivity, and the freedom it offers players. The tasks are simple yet engaging, and the game’s physics engine adds a layer of unpredictability and fun to every interaction.

The graphics are bright and colorful, with a cartoonish style that suits the game’s light-hearted tone. The controls are intuitive and responsive, making it easy for even VR novices to pick up and play.

As mentioned above, one of the best parts of Job Simulator is its humor. The game is filled with witty dialogue and hilarious situations that keep players entertained throughout. The robots’ commentary on human jobs is often satirical, providing a humorous critique of mundane work life.

However, the game does have its limitations. The tasks, while fun, can become repetitive after a while, and the game isn’t particularly long. But the charm of Job Simulator lies in its replayability. The freedom to interact with the environment in any way you choose means that each playthrough can be a unique experience.

Job Simulator was and is a great introduction to VR gaming. It’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, offering a fun, interactive experience that will have you laughing out loud. IMO Job Simulator is a job worth taking..
