I’ve recently gone back to playing one of my favorites, so I thought I’d do a quick comparison, sharing my experience playing on the new generation console. So buckle up, because we’re about to embark on a ride through the streets of Los Santos, comparing the adrenaline-pumping experience of Grand Theft Auto V on the PlayStation 4 Versus the PlayStation 5.
Graphics: A Visual Feast
Let’s start with the eye candy. On the PS4, GTA5 was already a looker. The sprawling cityscapes, sun-soaked beaches, and shady back-alleys were all rendered with impressive detail. But on the PS5? It’s like someone took Los Santos, gave it a Hollywood makeover, and then sprinkled a little magic on top. The game now supports 4K resolution and ray tracing, making the city feel more alive and immersive than ever.
PS4: The Good – Solid graphics for its time. The Bad – Can’t compete with the next-gen visual upgrades.
PS5: The Good – Stunning 4K, ray-traced visuals. The Bad – You’ll need a 4K TV to fully appreciate it.
Performance: Smooth Criminal
On the PS4, GTA5 ran at a respectable 30 frames per second. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, with occasional frame drops during intense action sequences. Enter the PS5, and it’s like the game has been given a nitrous boost. With the power of the PS5, GTA5 now runs at a silky smooth 60 FPS, making those high-speed chases even more thrilling.
PS4: The Good – Stable performance for most parts. The Bad – Occasional frame drops.
PS5: The Good – Smooth 60 FPS gameplay. The Bad – Once you experience this, there’s no going back.
Load Times: Blink and You’ll Miss It
Remember those long loading times on the PS4? You could make a sandwich, eat it, and still have time to spare. On the PS5 you might just miss the loading screen if you blink. Thanks to the PS5’s custom SSD, load times are drastically reduced, getting you back into the action quicker than you can say “Wasted!”
PS4: The Good – Gives you time to reflect on your life choices. The Bad – Long load times.
PS5: The Good – Super-fast load times. The Bad – No time for snack breaks.
DualSense Features: Feel the Game
The PS5’s DualSense controller brings a whole new level of immersion to GTA5. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers make you feel every gear shift, every recoil, every crash. It’s a game-changer, literally.
PS4: The Good – Familiar control scheme. The Bad – Lacks the immersive features of the DualSense.
PS5: The Good – DualSense features enhanced immersion. The Bad – You might never want to play with a regular controller again.
Final Words
GTA5 on the PS5 is like a tricked out sports car — faster, sleeker, and more powerful. But that doesn’t mean the PS4 version is a clunker. It’s more like a reliable sedan — it may not have all the bells and whistles, but it’ll get you where you need to go.
The PS4 version still provides a solid GTA5 experience but it can’t compete with the PS5’s enhancements.
The PS5 takes GTA5 to the next level. It might make your PS4 feel obsolete.
So, whether you’re a veteran GTA player looking to revisit Los Santos in all its next-gen glory, or a newcomer ready to dive into the thrilling world of GTA, there’s something for everyone on both consoles. Just remember to strap in – it’s sure to be a wild ride!
